The Rise of Mexican Restaurants

Mexican Restaurants are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. What has brought on this surge in diners? Attracted by the relatively low fares, great weather, friendly locals, a great party atmosphere and good food and drink, British holiday makers have, in recent years, started flocking to this Central American country for their annual 2 week pilgrimage to the sun. For many of these Gringos, it will be their first experience in Mexican culture and the delicious food that is a staple of the Mexican way of life. Some do not take well to the spicy food, but many, many more are literally blown away. It is not just the Mexican travellers who are exposed to this food. For a large number of years the USA has been revelling in the delights of the cuisine. Mexican immigrants make up a significant percentage of the American population, especially in California. When they came across the border, they brought with them Mexican delights which are enjoyed regularly by a large percentage of Americans. You only have to look at the number of Taco Bells fluttered around the country to see the impact. Taco Bell has been warped from the traditional incarnation of Mexican food to better serve the average American palette but it is undeniably Mexican in its origin. These travellers all return with an insatiable hunger for the food and restaurants are popping up all over the capital and rest of the country to satisfy these peoples needs. These restaurants are all vastly different, each serving its own interpretation of the traditional Mexican dishes, utilising all the staple ingredients such as Tortillas, Frijoles, Chilies, Guacamole and Salsa. Need something to wash all this delicious food down with? Call your waiter over and ask for a Tequila or Cerveza (Spanish the language of Mexico and most other Latin American Countries - for Beer). The abundance of Tequila in the restaurants is probably the catalyst for the atmosphere shared in all these Mexican Restaurants. You would be forgiven for thinking you were at a party. Staple dishes found in these Mexican Restaurants are Fajitas - Sizzling Dishes, made with Sweet Peppers, Onions, Mushrooms, Garlic Olive Oil freshly chopped Coriander. Served with Homemade Guacamole, Salsa Mexicana, Sour Cream, Grated Cheese Warm Flour Tortillas; Burritos - Flour Tortilla Cones, filled with either: Spicy Beef or Chicken, finished with a Salad Garnish, Salsa and Sour Cream. Whatever your choice, you are sure to find that taste to bring back the memories of that holiday in Cancun.
